Mike de Brie standards for weighting, selecting and packing are as follows:

Firsts: A hide has no cuts in the prime but may have limited non-penetrating take off marks at the extremities. Perfect trimming and preservation.

Seconds: A hide that has up to one non-penetrating cut in the prime and or up to three take off, penetrating cuts in the extremities. (A cut is defined as a hole penetrating through the skin. Take off marks which do not penetrate the skin are not classified as cuts.)

Thirds or Renderers: A hide with more than 3 cuts in the prime or with excessive defects such as 2-3 brands, warts, open scars, hair slip, poor cure, excessive holes or that is poorly shaped.

Free of tick marks/ visible mite damage Hides which are visually free of tick marks and/or mite damage but which may show tick damage under the hair.

Packing:   Hides are packed onto treated wooden pallets. Depending upon the weight of the hides, a 40 ft container will carry approximately 20 square pallets and/or 10 rectangular ones.

- Bulls hides 30/32 Kg and 36/38 kg
- Ox/heifers 24/26 kg
- Dairy cow hides 24/26 kg, 26/28 Kg and 30/32 Kg
- Occasionally veal skins and calfskins
